The Procedure
The procedure for reconstructing your crooked nose depends on where the damage is located. If the bones in the upper part of your nose are out of place, Dr. Bellin will use the same procedure as he would if he were narrowing your nose. This surgery involves re-shaping the bridge of your nose by cutting the bones and moving them to a more aligned and straight position.
If the crooked portion of your nose involves the lower cartilaginous area, it is more difficult to repair. Dr. Bellin will suggest the best method for obtaining your desired results. He will remove a section of cartilage from inside your nose and graft it where your nose is indented. This will create the appearance that your nose is centered the way it should be.
Special Case-Insurance Covered?
In the case of a deviated septum, the cartilage that runs through the middle of your nose is crooked. This malformation often causes one nostril to be blocked, which creates breathing issues. This situation would require nose surgery for medical reasons, rather than cosmetic reasons. Cosmetic surgery, such as rhinoplasty, is elective and is not covered by most health insurance companies.
