Breast Augmentation (Mammoplasty)
Manhattan, New York City, NY
Breast augmentation or enlargement surgery is an increasingly popular choice for those dissatisfied with the size of their breasts. Breast augmentation can increase the fullness and projection of your breasts, improve the balance of your figure, and ultimately enhance your self-image and self-confidence.
Women seek breast enlargement surgery for many reasons, including:
- Having a genetic disposition to smaller breasts, or asymmetrical breasts
- Reduced firmness from aging
- Drooping or sagging breasts after child bearing and breast feeding
- Seeking breast reconstruction surgery after a breast is partially or totally removed as part of the cancer treatment
Breast augmentation may also correct drooping breasts, especially if the implants are placed in front of the muscle. Rarely, a breast lift may be required in conjunction with breast augmentation.
Best candidates for breast enhancement surgery
Breast enlargement is a good choice to enhance your physique, but do not expect it to completely transform it. A thorough understanding of the procedure will help you form realistic expectations. You should do it for yourself, first and foremost – not to fulfill someone else’s desires or to try to fit any sort of ideal image. The best candidates for breast enlargement are women who understand this and are emotionally well-adjusted, have fully-formed breasts, are in good general health, eat a healthy diet, and have a history of physical activity.
Implant choice
The size and type of your implants will be determined not only by your desired increase in size but more importantly by your breast anatomy, skin elasticity, age, and body type. You currently have two options: saline and silicone. Saline implants are filled with salt water, silicone with an elastic gel. Dr. Bellin will discuss the pros and cons of each type and help you determine which type is best for you.
The procedure usually takes one to one-and-a-half hours, and is preferably done with local anesthesia and intravenous sedation, although general anesthesia is always an option. After a recovery period of an hour or two, you can go home with two small bandages and return one week later for removal of your sutures.
