What to Expect from your Rhinoplasty
Here is a general overview of what to expect:
Rhinoplasty is typically performed at the CosMedica facility as an outpatient procedure.
In most cases, the surgery requires only local anesthesia with sedation through an IV. You will not be aware of what is happening, and you will feel no pain during the procedure.
The surgery typically lasts less than one hour.
A bandage is placed across your nose after surgery. Dr. Bellin does not use nose “packing” materials in most cases.
Your nose breathing will feel “stopped” up, as if you have a very stuffy nose, immediately after surgery and for several days.
You can leave our facility an hour or two after the surgery is complete. You will need someone to drive you.
Pain medication will be prescribed for any discomfort you feel after the surgery. However, 90 percent of our patients do not require pain medication in the days following surgery.
You should be able to return to your normal activities within 24 hours.
After the surgery, you should expect some bruising and mild swelling around the nose. The swelling should dissipate within three to four days. The bruising may last for up to 10 days. Makeup can usually help to hide the discoloration. Read more about rhinoplasty recovery here.
One week after your nose surgery, you will return to our office for a follow-up appointment and bandage removal. You should not engage in any vigorous exercise for at least three weeks after rhinoplasty.
